The Edge of Morning

A clear morning, and I remember standing on an unfamiliar street. An hour when no one was calling for me. What I saw then has stayed strangely vivid. Travel lets me look back at myself from a distance. Unfamiliar scenery gives me the freedom not to have to be me. That freedom lingers long afterward. It's clear outside today. Why not imagine, for a moment, standing somewhere unfamiliar. Going somewhere no one knows.

I too have walked an empty alley, setting out early in the morning. The sunlight on the wall I saw then is still vivid to me. Hours like that seem to stay long on their own.
