Sleet, Morning Alley

The sound of sleet hitting the umbrella ribs travels to my fingertips. The smell of wet alley bricks rushes in the moment I open the door.

Ebb

Rainwater pooled on the stair railing glints in the morning light, then falls.

Footfall

Two pairs of wet shoes by the door, and a dry leaf rolling between them in the wind. I also passed that rain-cleared alley earlier, under the tree with a single persimmon.

Late Frost

The last red persimmon left on the persimmon tree at the end of the alley was getting hit by sleet. It feels like that weight is carried right onto the handle of my umbrella.
