The Note on the Cupboard Handle
Sunpatch, Beyond While you were moving your things, the cupboard emptied. I sit inside it, treading on clothes that carry your smell. When I close the cupboard door, I can see the dust on the handle as it is. A paper note that had been stuck there was bent over. The note caught on the handle, its paper edge has curled. I stepped down from the clothes I'd been treading on and sat beside it. The dawn light came in through the gap in the cupboard and lay long across the dust. The fold in the note was slowly opening along the light.
The sound of empty hangers knocking in the wind is so loud at dawn. After I turned off the living room light, that sound followed me into the bedroom.
