The Morning It Shook Itself Dry
Around the time the drip from the eaves was dying down, a sparrow shook itself. The water it shook off broke in the sunlight, glittered for a moment, and was gone. Standing there, I did nothing at all, and yet my shoulders loosened a little. The sparrow flew off soon after, but the eaves, still not dry, will stay quietly wet all day. I thought that I, too, might start the day a little damp from the morning, and that would be fine.
A single puddle of rain on the floor of the morning market. Passing shoes stirred a ripple, which settled again. For a long while afterward, it was quiet.
