Dew

The lips slowly opened, then slowly closed again. The cat on the wall pricked an ear once at the sound, and before long let its tail drop slowly. The summer dawn air carried the smell of wet soil and grass out through the alley, and between the still-dark windows, the sky above the wall was turning blue, little by little. Only where no one was listening did that answer come out smooth in a single breath.
