
A Walk at Dawn
I gave up on sleep and pulled on my shoes. My hands were still clumsy tying the laces. While I circled the apartment complex once, the streetlamps went out one by one. Morning came as slowly as I was walking. The paving stones underfoot were wet with dew, and my sneakers quietly took on that weight. Back home, when I took off my shoes, the laces had come undone again.
