A Gap in the Afternoon
When the day feels long, a single small choice can soothe the heart. After lunch, or in the afternoon when work briefly slows. How do you fill that short stretch of time? Choose whichever touches your heart below.
In the gap of the afternoon, where does your gaze rest?
On my way out after clearing my tray, the shade of the plane tree in front of the snack stand was split so prettily. The steps of everyone passing through it looked unhurried, every one.Sitting in a corner window seat of a half-empty cafe, I can see the ginkgo leaves fallen on the sidewalk outside roll now and then in the wind. Watching them, I often find that quite a lot of time has passed.
The unhurried steps you saw passing through the split shade of the plane tree, and the speed of the ginkgo leaves rolling between them, may have been the same wind.
