A Transparent Morning

Light through the curtains made the dust glitter. She watched that light with eyes not fully awake. A reply had come to the message she'd sent last night. It was a short sentence, but as she read it, the air in the room grew quietly warm. Outside, it was an unusually transparent morning. Making coffee, she wondered what he was doing at this hour. Probably on his way to work. Looking out the subway window, maybe thinking today would be all right. She didn't send a reply. Breathing in the coffee scent, she felt it would be fine to let the morning drift on just like this.
