
A Sip on the Way to Work
I opened the convenience store door to buy a coffee, and beyond the glass, morning light lay stretched out long. The still-cold air came into my throat. The person at the register and the person who held the door only exchanged a nod. But in that brief moment, I thought I understood why winter mornings aren't so bad. The paper cup in my hand was warm.
