The Light of an Unfamiliar Morning

To you. Early in the morning, I stepped down onto an unfamiliar street. The breath of the city, not yet awake, was still. The first step of a journey is always thrilling, but greater than the thrill was a quiet anticipation. Fog that had seeped into the alley was scattering the yellow light of the streetlamps. On the empty street, only my footsteps echoed. In that moment I felt a different time flowing here, unlike the familiar mornings at home. Unfamiliar scenery keeps overlapping with scenes from memory. It's the same sunlight, yet here it feels more tender and transparent. The places I stayed fell away behind me one by one, as if seeing me off. It seems the reason I came this far wasn't only for new discoveries. Walking along the morning light, you come to realize that the same sunset falls on the place you left. May that kind of light still reach your mornings, too.
