A Morning Where the Clouds Stayed

The light coming in between the curtains is unusually soft. The city, not yet fully awake, breathes quietly under a low sky. On a morning like this, I'm not lonely even alone, and I feel a warmth as if someone were beside me. Looking out the window, it suddenly occurred to me that I'd like there to be someone watching this same sky with me right now. And that thought alone seems enough to warm the day.

That light through the curtains stayed in the room a long, long time. I remember cupping a teacup in both hands, greeting a morning like that.
