A Day Set Aside
The light coming in between the curtains was different from yesterday's. Soft, flat, and hurrying nothing. The teacup on the table had already gone cold, and the book I'd closed yesterday lay right where it was. Though it was past nine, outside still wore the look of not being fully awake. On a morning like this, it seems fine to start today's tasks at half strength. Suddenly grateful for an hour no one was waiting on, I got up and opened the window a little. Cold air came in. I closed it again, and put on water that was still hot.
Cloudy
This evening the shoes at the door were in the same spot as yesterday. Before closing the door, I paused a moment and looked at that empty place.
