The Tail End of Dawn
To you. Where the night withdrew, this morning arrived first. Having endured the hour when everyone sleeps, the sky was slowly emptying the space between the stars. This moment when the day begins without anyone knowing, suddenly it feels as if I'm the only one awake. Yesterday was a bit long, wasn't it. Countless fragments of thought drifted through the room and couldn't settle anywhere. But that's all right. Dawn always quietly gathers up fragments like those. The morning light hung outside the window is spreading softly, as if that were all there was. Now it's time for the smell of coffee to spread. Around the time you're just opening your eyes, I'll already have started my day. An uneventful morning, but I have a feeling today will be a little different. You open your morning too.
Light burst in through the curtains and drew a square line on the floor. When I pass over that light, dust rises white and settles again.
